Josh Stewart has a new article featuring quotes from Mickie James on Newsday.com. In it, James comments on her country music career.

“I do want it to be a real career,” James says. “… I want to cross over into that and take my fan base with me in the music side. It’s been a slow process, a lot of work, but it’s been good work. It’s just like when I broke into wrestling, still learning, still perfecting. Just like I’m still learning things in the ring.”

Mickie James spoke with Newsday.com and revealed that she is planning on releasing a full-length album later this year.

When asked whether she would consider an MMA career she said, “I don’t really follow MMA. I don’t think I could. I’m an artist, a performer. There’s an art to what we do to the wrestling. I don’t want to really fight anybody.”

Mickie James was asked by a Twitter user the difference between an icon and a legend and responded, “A Legend is an Icon of the past… I am an Icon! I aspire 2 be a Legend!”

Between WWE and TNA, James is an eight-time champion, and is also the only female to hold the WWE Women’s, WWE Divas and TNA Women’s Knockout Championship in history.

Mike Buda of SportstownChicago.com recently interviewed Mickie James, who discussed her upcoming match with Melina in Puerto Rico. Here are some highlights:

On TNA’s Knockouts: “We have a very strong division. The only difference is the style and the types of matches and the length of the matches that we have. It’s a rarity when a woman can main event the show and I’ve been fortunate enough to do that. I’m very blessed to be looked at as equal as someone who can hold that level at the end of the show. It’s an honor. We have Sarita, who’s very well known in Mexico and a main star in the Knockouts roster. Everybody is a little bit different.”

On possible return to WWE: “In this business, it’s not one of those things where you can never say never. Right now, I’m having a great time at TNA and I’ve been enjoying it. I can’t say anytime soon.”

According to Pwinsider.com, WWC announced that “El Mesias” Ricky Banderas (Judas Mesias), Epico and Primo will be on the card for the Aniversario shows. While running down the names for those who will appear, Mickie James’ name did not appear. She had previously been announced for the event, but now there is speculation that the deal fell through.

On this day in History (April 29th, 2007) At 2007′s Backlash, Melina defended her Women’s Championship against Mickie James in a rematch to the bout that brought the title to Melina’s waist. Clearly, there was no love lost between these two: both competitors played dirty, using a lot of choking, hair pulling, eye-raking and forced splits to gain an advantage. In the end, it was Melina with a well-timed eye-rake that set her up for her finisher, and she defeated Mickie, retaining her title.
